From Shepparton, Cam McPherson was a tough, hard tackling defender who gave his opponents little latitude. He was a key member of Hawthorn’s 1961 flag-winning combination and also played in the losing grand final of two years later. Between 1959 and 1966 he played 104 VFL games for the Hawks without kicking a goal. Away from football - as well as, presumably, in it - he was a fine sprinter.
