Carl Willis was an accomplished all round sportsman who played cricket for Victoria in addition to his football career. That career commenced in 1912 with University for whom he played 48 matches and kicked 41 goals over three seasons whilst stamping himself as one of the most impressive members of a persistently weak side. He transferred to South Melbourne in 1915 and added 29 VFL games and 18 goals during that season and in 1920-1. He skippered South in his last year.
