Clive Coles was an excellent back pocket player who was also a useful on-baller. He played 109 VFL games and kicked 76 goals for Geelong in 1930-1 and from 1933 to 1938, the highlight of which was probably participation in the Cats’ 1937 premiership win. Coles rounded off his career with 13 games and 21 goals for St Kilda in 1939. Regarded as one of the best players of his type in the league it should come as no surprise that he was selected to play for Victoria.
