Craig Stewart commenced his senior career in the VFA with Preston whose best and fairest award he won in 77 having topped their goal kicking the previous year. A strongly built (193cm, 99kg) ruckman or forward he transferred to Collingwood in 1978 and went on to play 115 VFL games and kick 121 goals over the ensuing six seasons. He played in the Magpies’ losing grand finals of 1980 against Richmond and 1981 against Carlton before crossing to Richmond in 1984. He then rounded off his career with 35 games and 3 goals in three seasons with the Tigers.
