Despite standing 200cm in height Daniel Bandy was extremely mobile. Moreover, he possessed a gargantuan leap and strong hands, and so could be very dominant, whether as a ruckman or forward. He gave up a promising basketball career to concentrate on football, and in the end could be well satisfied with his choice.

After just 15 games for Perth in 1994¹ Bandy had done enough to convince Fremantle coach Gerard Neesham that he had what it took to succeed in the AFL. Bandy therefore became an inaugural Docker, and over the course of his seven season stint with the club he became a firm fan favourite, not to mention an imposing on field presence, playing a total of 105 games and scoring 80 goals. He maintained his good form for the majority of his time with the Western Bulldogs, where he moved in 2002, and for whom he played a final 45 AFL games and booted 46 goals over four seasons. He rounded off his career with 40 games and 40 goals for Claremont in 2006-7.
