Capable of marking strongly and kicking well on the run, David Pretty was a consistently reliable defender and wingman who gave good service to two league clubs. From Wodonga, he commenced with North Melbourne in 1969, and had played 58 VFL games and kicked 12 goals by the time he crossed to Perth in 1974. He enjoyed an excellent debut season with the Demons, culminating in a stand-out 27 disposal performance in their grand final loss to East Fremantle which saw him share the Simpson Medal for best afield with Old Easts’ Gary Gibellini. Pretty spent another season with Perth and had played 25 WANFL and kicked three goals by the time he departed.
