Geelong recruited David Cameron from Echuca and he was a solid performer for the Cats in 41 games between 1986 and 1990, in which he registered 71 goals. A mid-sized half forward and forward, he was extremely elusive and quite fiery. He contributed a couple of goals to Geelong’s losing effort against Hawthorn in the 1989 VFL grand final. He was also reported during the match for striking Dean Anderson, and the tribunal handed down a three match suspension.

As it turned out he would not serve the suspension with the Cats because the 1990 season found him at Brisbane, where he added a final 15 games and 26 goals to his respective career tallies.
