Having commenced in South Melbourne’s thirds Dick Burke made his senior league debut with the club in round five, 1959. It soon became clear that he was a ruckman-forward of genuine quality, able to compete successfully with the very best opponents. From 1959 to 1963 he played 55 games for the Swans and booted 33 goals. He later served the club as vice president.
