Used as a centre half forward by Melbourne, Dick Kennedy found his niche on a half forward flank after shifting to Fitzroy. He actually started out with Hawthorn where he played in the thirds, but as he was residentially tied to Melbourne the Demons claimed him.

Kennedy’s VFL career comprised 13 games and 11 goals for Melbourne in 1945-6 and 63 games and 47 goals with Fitzroy from 1947 to 1951.
