Don Wilks was a competent defender, usually deployed in a back pocket, but also sometimes on a half back flank. He played for Camberwell in the VFA initially before crossing to VFL side Hawthorn in 1943, the season which saw the club’s nickname altered from Mayblooms to Hawks. Wilks’ career with Hawthorn was brief, spanning just three seasons, in which he played 51 games and scored three goals.
