Renowned as being particularly adept in wet weather, Doug Palmer was a clever, combative centreman and half forward flanker who played 57 VFL games and scored 11 goals for Geelong from 1952 to 1954. He lined up in the pivot in the 1952 grand final which saw the Cats account for Collingwood. Despite standing only 175cm tall he often brought excitement to the crowd with his spectacular attempts to mark, an impressive number of which proved successful.
