Dwayne Russell was a powerful forward and utility who initially rose to prominence with Port Adelaide in the SANFL where he played 71 games and scored 133 goals between 1981 and 1986. He was one of the Magpies’ best players in their 1984 grand final loss to Norwood. He also played twice for South Australia in 1984. From 1987 to 1991 Russell made 50 appearances and kicked 51 goals for Geelong. He later coached in country Victoria for a few years before embarking on a successful and high profile media career.
