Collingwood's Jeparit recruit Errol Hutchesson was a diminutive (175cm, 74kg) footballer with blistering pace but prone to frequent injuries. One such injury, a broken leg, cost him a possible place in the Magpies' 1958 premiership team. His overall tally of 127 VFL games between 1958 and 1967 included the losing grand finals of 1960 and 1966. He produced his best football in 1966 when, playing mainly as a wingman, he earned 9 Brownlow votes, the most by any Collingwood player that year.

After leaving Victoria Park Hutchesson played for Prahran in the VFA and was a team member, and close to best afield, when they downed Williamstown in the 1970 first division grand final.
