From Benalla, Frank Hogan was a clever, industrious rover with a keen goal sense. He spent the 1958 and 1959 seasons playing a dozen games and scoring six goals for South Melbourne but it would be reasonable to surmise that he had difficulty in establishing himself. He faced no such problems at his next port of call, West Adelaide, where he made 58 senior appearances and kicked 120 goals between 1960 and 1962. He was high in the Blood and Tars’ best players in their 1961 grand final defeat of Norwood, garnering numerous possessions and booting four goals. He was West’s top goal kicker in 1961 with 46 goals, and in 1962 with 47. His last game in a black and red jumper was the 1962 grand final loss to Port Adelaide.
