After playing his early football at South Fremantle Frank Wilcher crossed to Collingwood in the VFL, where he impressed as a highly dependable, stay at home half back. Between 1906 and 1909 he played 53 games and kicked one goal for the Magpies. In later life he served as mayor of Williamstown.
