George Anderson, a defender, commenced his VFL career with South Melbourne in 1906 and went on to play 42 games for the club over three seasons without kicking a goal. After not playing in 1909-10 he joined University, adding a final 20 VFL games between 1911 and 1914. He scored the only goal of his career whilst playing for the Students against Geelong in 1911.
