Recruited by Collingwood from Maffra, George Carter was very much a fringe player, only once managing to play more than half the club’s games in a season. Nevertheless, he was serviceable enough when called upon, and could usually be relied on to contribute a goal or two every match. From 1932 to 1937 he played 49 VFL games for the Magpies and scored 60 goals. The 1938 season saw him at Hawthorn where he added another 33 games and 25 goals over three seasons. George Carter was the uncle of Rod Carter.
