Graeme Robertson arrived at Carlton from Kangaroo Flat in 1971 and gradually progressed through the ranks until taking his senior team bows in 1974. The Blues were a highly accomplished team at this point in time, and Robertson struggled to make an impression, playing just nine times and kicking two goals in two seasons. Meanwhile he made no fewer than 76 appearances for the reserves.

The 1976 season found Robertson at Richmond where he fared rather better. A defender, he was ultra reliable and very mobile. He next spent the 1977 season at West Adelaide where he played 16 SANFL games without scoring a goal. He returned to Richmond in 1978 and had played 51 VFL games and booted one goal by the time he left the club at the end of the 1981 season. Between 1982 and 1984 he played for Port Adelaide, adding a final 25 games and a goal to his respective career tallies.
