Tall and thinly built at 192cm and 81kg Grant Lawrie gave impressive service to two V/AFL clubs. Originally from Bulleen-Templestowe he was recruited by Fitzroy in 1978 and used initially as a wingman before establishing himself on a half back flank, in which position he represented Victoria in 1983. He spent eleven seasons with the Lions, playing 151 VFL games and kicking 56 goals. He spent the 1989 season with VFA club Box Hill before returning for one last year in the big time with St Kilda in 1990. Although his time with the Saints was brief, yielding just 17 games and a couple of goals, he consistently performed with credit leaving the impression  that, had he desired, he could have played on for another few seasons.
