Haydn McAuliffe was a rover who excelled in winning the hard ball but whose subsequent distribution of it sometimes left something to be desired. He joined South Melbourne from Spotswood and, between 1965 and 1973, enjoyed a meritorious 105 game, 104 goal VFL career, roving for much of the time alongside bona fide Australian football legend Bob Skilton.
