A nephew of former Fitzroy champions Fred Fontaine and Ernie Jenkins, Horrie Dawson was a fine footballer for the Roys himself who gave the club solid service in 140 games between 1931 and 1940. He kicked 62 goals, the majority of them early in his career when he played mainly as a forward. Later, he developed into an excellent defender who polled well in the 1934 and 1937 Brownlow counts as well as representing the Big V in the latter year.
