Originally from VAFA club Old Melburnians, Ian McMullin was a serviceable half forward with quite a keen eye for goal. Between 1984 and 1987 he played 21 VFL games and scored 24 goals for Collingwood before being de-listed. After a couple of years away from top level football he was drafted by Essendon, where he failed to really establish himself, playing just 24 games and kicking 26 goals from 1990 until halfway through the 1992 season, when was again drafted by Collingwood. Over the remainder of that season and all of the following he played a final four AFL games and registered five goals before retiring.
