Carlton recruited Jack Mills from South Bendigo and he proved a handy acquisition, albeit during an unusually bleak time for the club. Of his 124 senior games between 1950 and 1957 only one was a final. A rover, he was hard working and an excellent kick with either foot, but lacked pace. He was also dangerous when resting in a forward pocket, as his career tally of 128 goals attests.
