Queensland-born Jack Robertson enjoyed a highly impressive debut season with Melbourne in 1909. Playing on a wing, he was capable of real brilliance at times, although there were some who maintained he was a little too showy. Midway through his career he was tried in the centre to good effect. A knee injury sustained in 1912 almost brought an end to his career, but he recovered to play on for one more season. All told he played 60 VFL games for the Reds and scored 16 goals.
