From Iona, Jack Scanlon would probably have to be described as a utility in that he could play in several different positions with more or less equal facility and effectiveness. However, most of his football was played either on a half back flank or in the back pocket. The VFL phase of his career with St Kilda comprised 67 games and 14 goals between 1930 and 1936. From 1937 to 1940 he added 39 VFA games and 25 goals with Coburg, operating as captain-coach in his first three seasons.
