Jamie Tape was a talented half back flanker whose highly promising playing career was ultimately derailed by injury. From the small town of Coobowie on the Yorke Peninsula, he was recruited by Woodville-West Torrens and would go on to play 94 SANFL games for the club in 1992-3 and 2000-1. Among his appearances was the Eagles’ 1993 grand final victory over Norwood when he was listed high among his team’s best players.

During the interim period between his two SANFL stints Tape played in the AFL with Richmond (75 games, 1994-7) and Collingwood (1998-9). At his peak during his first three seasons with the Tigers he then ran foul of the injury issues alluded to and struggled to have an impact. Axed by the Magpies, he returned to South Australia for two final seasons with the Eagles. Two years after his retirement as a player he suffered a suspected brain aneurysm and died, aged just 28.
