Although sometimes subjected to criticism over his perceived lack of skill there is no doubt that Jason Wild could be a highly effective player, particularly when asked to undertake a negating role. A strong tackler and extremely determined, he made life inordinately difficult for his direct opponents. Collingwood took him at number 39 in the 1993 National Draft from Collingullie-Ashmont, and he debuted on Anzac Day 1995 against Essendon, a match which famously ended in a draw. Wild went on to play 70 AFL games and score 22 goals for the Magpies over five seasons.
