Jason Snell’s highly promising AFL career with Geelong was just clicking into gear when the curtain was cruelly and emphatically brought down on it. He was drafted by the Cats in 1995 and made his senior league debut the following year. A midfielder who could also play up forward he averaged almost a goal a game over the course of his career. In one game against Port Adelaide in 1997 he kicked five goals in a single quarter. By 1999 he was coming into his own as a highly productive on-baller, a fact endorsed by his receipt of the Cats most improved player award. He continued to play good football over the next year and commenced the 2001 season in fine style with a 22 disposal, two goal performance against West Coast. Two rounds later, however, the season and career-ending moment arrived as he injured his leg so badly that part of the broken bone protruded out through the skin. He would never again be able to run, which needless to say made any further football exploits out of the question. He had played 68 AFL games and scored 62 goals.
