Jim McCashney was a stalwart of Hawthorn’s late VFA and early VFL sides. A wingman, he played a total of 134 games for the Mayblooms between 1920 and 1927, including 106 in succession at one stage. After not playing football in 1928 McCashney was appointed captain-coach of Sandringham for that club’s initial foray in VFA football in 1929. After just one season in the role, however, and having played 15 games and scored seven goals for the club, he retired for good.
