Prior to commencing with Essendon in 1898 Jimmy Larkin played an unknown number of games in the VFA with North Melbourne. Earlier still he had played for West Melbourne. A canny, agile half forward who was dangerous near goal he played in the Same Old’s 1901 grand finl win over Collingwood. He also played in the following season’s losing premiership decider against the same opponent. All told he played 73 VFL games and kicked 61 goals for Essendon between 1898 and 1903.
