Jock Doherty was a lightweight wingman or rover who overcame the not inconsiderable handicap of being blind in one eye to succeed at football’s highest level. His 67 games with South Melbourne included the 1918 grand final triumph over Collingwood when he was first rover. He played at South in 1915, from 1917 to 1920 and in 1922. He returned to VFL action in 1925 when he was a member of North Melbourne’s inaugural team at that level. However, he played just four games before retiring. His career total of 40 goals comprised 37 with South and three with North.
