After struggling to make his mark at North Melbourne, which was then one of the premier clubs in the land, John Moylan crossed to Footscray where he fared slightly better. Prior to embarking on a league career he played for Dookie and University Blues. Mostly deployed on a half back flank, he played 30 VFL games and scored one goal with North from 1974 to 1978 before adding 21 games and a goal for the Bulldogs in 1979-80.
