John Sudholz was a powerfully built full forward who was competent enough without being on a par with superstars such as Hudson, McKenna and Jesaulenko. He joined South Melbourne from Rupanyup, and made his senior VFL debut in 1966. At first he was tried in numerous different positions, before finding his natural home at the goal front. Over the course of his six season league career he played 86 games and scored 176 goals. He was the Swans’ top goal kicker every season between 1967 and 1970, with a best tally of 60 in the last of those years.
