Kain Taylor made his senior VFL debut for St Kilda in 1986, but he struggled to maintain his place in the side, and for four seasons he played mostly reserves football. Finally, in 1990 he enjoyed something of a break-out year, playing 17 games, mostly as either a defender or tagger. When he left the Saints in 1994 he had played 76 V/AFL games and scored 20 goals.
Taylor finished his playing career in the VFA/L with Springvale whom he captained to flags in 1996, 1998 and 1999. After the grand final defeat of Frankston in 1996 he earned the Norm Goss Memorial Medal for best afield.
