Keith Rawle served Essendon well as second rover to the great Bill Hutchison for most of the 1940s. Hailing from North Essendon Methodists, he debuted in 1942, and when he left the club in 1949 he had played 111 VFL games and kicked 98 goals. He missed the 1944 and 1945 seasons while serving in the RAAF. An excellent drop kick who displayed plenty of nous, he was named in the forward pocket in the Bombers’ 1946 and 1949 premiership teams.

Between 1950 and 1958 Rawle was captain-coach of Ballarat Football League club Redan. He won the competition best and fairest in 1951 and led the team to the 1952 flag. After leaving Redan he spent the 1960 and 1961 seasons coaching Daylesford.
