Sometimes derided early in his Essendon career by his club’s own supporters Kevin Walsh hit back in the best way possible by playing a key role in the 1984 and 1985 premiership combinations. His ungainly approach tended to magnify his mistakes but he became much more assured and reliable the longer his career went on. Selected for Victoria in 1985, 1986 and 1987 he was named an All Australian in 1986. Boasting plenty of pace for a comparatively big (193cm, 82kg) man, his surging bursts out of the backlines were a particular trademark. His V/AFL career comprised 162 games and saw him kick 20 goals between 1982 and 1991.
