Of slim build at 178cm and 67kg Laurie Slack boasted an abundance of courage and a copious amount of skill. Pacy and elusive, he almost invariably used the ball with intelligence and precision. He joined Geelong from East Geelong and went on to play 77 VFL games and register 11 goals for the club from 1935 to 1940. With the exception of his last season he was a near automatic choice for the seniors. In the 1937 grand final clash with Collingwood he was on a wing as the Cats surged to victory with six last term goals to one after scores had been deadlocked at ‘lemons’.
