Flame-haired Leon Higgins was a highly capable footballer who kicked extremely well and had plenty of pace. He joined Sydney from Tocumwal, and gave the club solid service in 121 V/AFL games between 1987 and 1995, during which he kicked 80 goals. A winger during the first part of his career with the Swans, he later developed into a resourceful rebound defender, although the last few years of his career saw him adversely impacted by injury. In 1996 he crossed to Hawthorn but managed just a single game before retiring. He later coached his original club, Tocumwal.
