The first player, and still one of only three, to play for five VFL clubs (the others being Les Hughson and Dale Kickett), Les Abbott also turned out for no less than three VFA clubs, Brunswick, North Melbourne and Port Melbourne. A full back who struggled to nail down a place in the team at Carlton, Port Melbourne and Collingwood in his early days, he established himself as a regular at Brunswick and was a member of Pottery Workers' 1909 premiership side.

Abbott later had two solid seasons with Richmond, before playing three games each for Melbourne and South Melbourne in 1912.
