Nicknamed ‘Rhino’ because of his hefty, barrel-chested frame and rumbustious, front on style of play, Luke O’Sullivan was a firm favourite among Carlton fans throughout his league career which ran from 1986 to 1997. However, because of persistent injuries he managed just 62 senior appearances (and 58 goals) in those 12 seasons. Ironically, he had just enjoyed the best season in his career in 1997, playing 15 games and registering a dozen goals, when he was de-listed. Ten years earlier he had experienced a minor career highlight when he played in the Blues’ reserves grand final-winning team against St Kilda.
