From Lara, Marty Christensen joined Geelong and performed solidly, without ever quite becoming a first choice senior player, in 69 V/AFL games from 1985 to 1991, scoring 18 goals. Typically used either on the wing or across half back, he crossed to North Melbourne in 1992, but failed to establish himself, playing just a couple of games in his first season, and none in 1993. Christensen also played for St Mary’s in the NTFL during the summer months and was a member of back to back premiership-winning teams in 1993-4 and 1994-5. He was a joint winner in 1995-6 of the competition’s best and fairest award, the Nichols Medal.
