Mick Dwyer was an abundantly talented centreman who was prevented from realising his potential by a succession of injuries. He commenced with St Kilda in 1986 but managed only 80 appearances over the ensuing ten years. In 1993 he played just nine games yet still received eight Brownlow Medal votes, the second highest total of any St Kilda player. It was a similar story in other seasons, emphasising that here was a player of considerable ability.
In 1996 Dwyer crossed to Fitzroy but again struggled with injuries and played just eight games in what proved to be his last season in top grade football.
