A rugged, reliable defender who 'took no prisoners', Mike Delanty was an important cog in the Collingwood wheel from 1957 to 1962 during which time he played 87 VFL games. He was at centre half back in the Magpies' grand final defeat of Melbourne in 1958 and also played in the losing grand final of 1960 against the same opposition. After transferring to North Melbourne in 1963 he continued to perform serviceably in 54 games over four seasons giving him an overall tally of 141 games. He kicked 31 goals.
