After struggling to achieve regular selection early in his career Geelong’s Murray Witcombe struck a rich vein of form after being shifted from his usual position as rover to a wing. Pacy and an excellent ball handler he also had good team sense and boasted plenty of courage. The Cats recruited him from Inverleigh and he gave them highly meritorious service in 121 VFL games between 1976 and 1986. He kicked 79 goals.
