Footscray recruited Neil Cordy, the third of three brothers to play VFL football, from Traralgon, and he made his league debut in 1979. An extremely talented wingman who could take spectacular marks, he gave the Bulldogs excellent service in 139 games before crossing to Sydney after the 1987 season. With the Swans he played more defensive roles but was just as effective as during his time with Footscray. He played 96 games for Sydney before retiring in 1993. He also played state of origin football for Victoria. All told his senior V/AFL career comprised 235 games during which he kicked 32 goals. After his career as a footballer was over he became a sports reporter for Network Ten.
