The son of former Essendon player Fred Lynch, Paul Lynch certainly boasted plenty of talent, but over the course of his eight season AFL career he was repeatedly blighted by injury. As a result, from 1993 to 2000 he only played 62 games, kicking 55 goals. It was suggested that one reason for his susceptibility to injury was that the base of his back was straight rather than inverted, resulting in increased pressure on his back, legs and in particular hamstrings. Nevertheless, after being de-listed by the Cats he continued to play in local leagues for several years.
