Peter Keays was a determined backman often saddled with the job of minding the opposition’s most dangerous forward. He was pacy and stuck to his task doggedly. He joined Melbourne from Broadford and played 40 VFL games and kicked four goals for the club between 1974 and 1977.

The 1978 season saw Keays at Fitzroy where he added a final 49 VFL games (but no goals) over four seasons. In 1982 and 1983 he played 19 WAFL games without kicking a goal for East Fremantle before rounding off his career with a three season stint at VFA side Springvale.
