A prolific goal kicking full forward, as a junior Peter McCormack was tried in the position when he commenced with Collingwood, but without success. After being reinvented as a full back, however, his career took off. Dogged, cool under pressure, excellent overhead and a long and highly accurate kick he developed into one of the hardest defenders to beat in the competition. Between 1976 and 1985 he played 160 VFL games and kicked 21 goals for the Magpies. He was also selected twice in Victorian second string combinations. The 1986 season saw him rounding off his league career with brief stints at Richmond (four appearances) and Fitzroy (just a single game).
