A solid, hard working defender, Peter Berbakov played for Essendon’s under 19s before crossing to Glenelg in 1993 in search of greater opportunities. He did well for the Bays, playing 27 SANFL games and scoring 10 goals, resulting in an invitation to re-join Essendon. After being on the Bombers’ supplementary list in 1995 he made his senior debut the following year, and when he was de-listed after a 2000 season which had seen him fail to make a single appearance he had played 52 AFL games and kicked 14 goals. Although primarily used in defence he was perfectly capable of doing a job up forward, and in one game against Carlton in 1997 he bagged four goals.
