Ralph Lane was a pacy half forward flanker and wingman noted for his aerial prowess. He played 72 VFL games and kicked nine goals for Melbourne between 1951 and 1956. He lined up on the wing in Melbourne’s losing grand final of 1954 against Footscray, and was on the bench for the victorious 1956 flag decider against Collingwood. Away from football he engaged in sprinting, and was the winner in 1952 of the Eltham Gift footrace.
